SUMMARY OF INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR SPAIN (ENGLISH LANGUAGE)
When you (“you” or “your”) use RideDott S.L.U.’s (“Dott”) services in Spain (“territory”) you may benefit from Dott’s insurance.
The extent of the coverage together with certain terms, conditions, and exclusions that you need to be aware of that are relevant to the cover provided are set out below in this summary of Dott’s insurance (“insurance summary”).
Please read these terms carefully as any failure to comply with these terms may result in your claim being rejected.
To qualify for cover under Dott’s insurance you need to:
- be at least 18 years of age;
- possess a valid identity document within the EEA;
- be registered as an authorised user of Dott’s mobile application using a verified Dott account at the time of the accident; and
Liability to third parties
Subject to the exclusions and limitations recorded in this insurance summary, Dott’s insurance will cover you for any amounts that you are legally liable to pay as damages for:
Death of or bodily injury to any third party up; or
Loss of or damage to the property of any third party as a result of an accident whilst you are using a vehicle within the territory, and up to the limits shown below:
Third Party Property damage: €1,500,000
Bodily injury: €1,500,000
Additional cover under this section:
As long as you follow the instructions set out under the ‘How to make a claim’ section (section 4) of this insurance summary, then Dott’s insurer will also pay any defence costs that arise in connection with any claim and as a direct result of an accident within the territory.
Legal fees for criminal defence:
If there is an accident covered by Dott’s insurance, and as long as you follow the terms set out under the ‘How to make a claim’ section (section 4) of this insurance summary, then Dott’s insurer will cover the legal fees for criminal defence. In this event Dott’s insurer has the option (entirely at its discretion) to choose between either paying reasonable legal costs and/or expenses to defend, or representing you:
- at a coroner’s inquest or fatal accident enquiry; and/or
- in criminal proceedings arising out of the accident.
Dott’s insurer must agree to all such legal costs and/or expenses beforehand. If Dott’s insurer agrees to pay such legal costs and/or expenses, then Dott’s insurer will tell you at that time how much assistance they will give you.
What is not covered under this section:
Dott’s insurer will not cover any claims where:
The accident occurs whilst the vehicle is being used:
- by anyone other than you; or
- for anything other than the uses specifically permitted in this insurance summary.
The loss or damage is to the vehicle itself.
The loss or damage is to property which belongs to you, or is in the care, custody or control of anyone insured under Dott’s insurance.
The loss relates to any criminal or regulatory charges, fines or penalties.
Any bodily injury to or damage to property owned by a third party which does not occur as the direct result of an accident involving a vehicle.
Subject to the exclusions and limitations stated below, Dott’s insurance will cover you should you suffer an accident whilst using a vehicle within the territory which directly results in your death, permanent total disablement, or permanent partial disablement, either immediately or within one year from the date of the accident up to the limits shown below:
Permanent Partial Disablement: €50,000
Permanent Total Disablement: €50,000
Additional cover under this section: If you die as a result of an accident whilst using a vehicle outside of the your country of residence, then, on production of appropriate supporting documentation, Dott’s insurer shall also pay:
- any funeral expenses up to a maximum of €3,000.
- any costs of your repatriation up to a maximum of €5,000.
Specific conditions for this section:
- In order to be eligible to be paid any benefit under this section, you must provide Dott’s insurer with appropriate medical evidence, whether from your GP or another suitably qualified medical professional, confirming that the accident has resulted in the bodily injury or directly led to the benefit that is being claimed for.
- If Dott’s insurer disagrees on:
- the nature of any bodily injury; and/or
- whether it resulted from an accident whilst you were using a vehicle; and/or
- whether it constitutes either a permanent total disablement or permanent partial disablement; and/or
- whether you are unable to work as a result of the bodily injury then Dott’s insurer can obtain a separate medical opinion (at Dott’s insurer’s cost), and you, and Dott’s insurer shall be bound by that opinion.
- The amount to be paid to you for the bodily injury itself will be calculated by reference to the relevant national guidelines for the assessment of general damages for bodily injury claims, and confirmation of that sum based upon the particular facts of the claim will be at Dott’s insurer’s sole discretion.
- The total of any benefits payable under this section shall not exceed the limits stated herein for the period of insurance, regardless of the bodily injury suffered and your inability to work.
- The payment of repatriation costs is contingent upon you having died as the result of an accident whilst using a vehicle.
What is not covered under this section:
Dott’s insurer will not pay any claims where any death or bodily injury is attributable to:
- Illness or disease, unless this is the direct result of an accident.
- A gradual loss of use or function which is not the direct result of an accident.
- Any medical expenses, including but not limited to the costs of private treatment, experts’ opinions, and any future costs of care.
Other limitations to cover:
Where you suffer a brain or head injury as the result of an accident whilst not wearing a helmet, then any amount payable under this section will be capped at a maximum of €50,000 in respect to that accident.
In this section you’ll find a number of terms that apply to all claims under Dott’s insurance, and describe your responsibilities, general information and the procedures that apply in certain situations.
It’s really important that you read and comply with these terms, as any breach could make your cover invalid or mean that Dott’s insurer does not pay any claims.
How to make a claim
Ok, so this part sets out everything that you need to know about making a claim under Dott’s insurance: what you should do, what you need to tell Dott’s insurer, and what you definitely shouldn’t do. It’s really important that read and comply with this process or your claim(s) may not be paid.
There’s just been an accident.
- As soon as reasonably possible after any accident either you should

It is important that you call or email Dott’s insurer to make a claim and report any incident which might give rise to a claim, whether it is your fault or not and whether you intend to make a claim or not.
- Dott’s insurer will ask a number of questions about the accident, such as when, where, and how it happened, and whether any third parties were involved.
- You should not admit any fault or make any offers or promises etc. to any third party that was involved without speaking to Dott’s insurer first.
- If any third parties are involved, then you should NOT RIDE AWAY. You should stop if any property has been damaged or if anyone is injured and provide their name and address and insurance details to anyone who needs it.
- Similarly, you should ask any other third party who is involved for a name, address, and insurance details.
Dott’s insurer is dealing with the claim. What else should you do?
- If you receive any communication about the accident, whether it concerns who is responsible for the accident, any repairs to the vehicle, or any other costs that have been incurred, then please tell us straight away. If the communication is in writing, then please send Dott’s insurer a copy.
- As stated above, it’s very important that you do not make any admission of liability, promise, or offer to any third party at any time, without Dott’s insurer’s permission.
- Please tell Dott’s insurer straight away if you, or any other third party involved in the accident is to be prosecuted as a result, or if there is to be an inquest following a fatal accident.
- If Dott’s insurer asks you for any information or documentation which is necessary for them to consider the claim, or to deal with any proceedings against you, then this must be provided to them as soon as possible.
- If Dott’s insurer wants to, it is allowed to take over and conduct in your name the defence or settlement of any claim, or to issue proceedings in your name against any third party to recover any payment that it has made under Dott’s insurance.
- Dott’s insurer will have full control of those proceedings and progress/settle them however Dott’s insurer think best, but this shall always be at Dott’s insurer’s cost and expense. You will not have to pay.
If you, or anyone else acting on your behalf, either (i) provides any false or fraudulent information to Dott’s insurer in relation to Dott’s insurance, or (ii) makes any claim under Dott’s insurance knowing it to be false, fraudulently inflated, or supported by fraudulent documents or facts, then Dott’s insurer will act in accordance with applicable law and in full coordination with the Authorities and Dott’s insurer may do any or all of the following:
- Decline the claim and treat the insurance coverage as being terminated from the date of the fraud;
- Pass any details to any fraud prevention and/or law enforcement agencies, including but not limited to the Police.
These general exclusions apply to all sections of Dott’s insurance and all uses of the vehicles, regardless of the level of cover provided. They describe the things which are not covered in any situation and apply as well as the exclusions shown in each individual section. It is therefore extremely important that you read them in full.
Dott’s insurance does not cover any claims:
- Arising out of the use of a vehicle provided for hire in any territory which requires motor insurance under the Directive or any other applicable laws, regulations, or rules within that territory.
- For loss of or damage to any property belonging to you, including but not limited to the vehicle itself.
- Where the accident occurs outside of the territory
- Arising from any accident which occurs whilst you are under the influence of drugs or hallucinogens.
- Arising from any accident, damage to property, or bodily injury which was caused or contributed to by your deliberate or reckless usage or act.
- Arising from any accident whilst any vehicle is being used:
- for any ‘type of use’ other than as stated in this insurance summary.
- by anyone under the minimum rider age required within the territory in which the accident takes place.
- by anyone other than you;
- by more than one person at the same time;
- to carry hazardous goods;
- to otherwise carry goods in a way likely to affect its safe riding and control;
- in an unsafe or un-roadworthy condition;
- when it has not been registered, taxed etc. as required within the territories;
- in any way that is otherwise illegal within the territories;
- to tow any additional item of any kind.
- Where the vehicle involved in the accident has been subject to any modifications (other than any repairs carried out by a suitably qualified repair provider).
- For any liability that you have accepted under an agreement or contract, unless that liability would have attached anyway.
- Any liability arising from any other business owned and/or operated by you whether or not related to the use of a vehicle which is otherwise covered under Dott’s insurance.
- For any loss or damage arising from or in consequence of:
- flood, storm, or earthquake;
- riot or civil commotion;
- pollution or contamination;
- exposure to electric or electromagnetic magnetic fields or radiation;
- exposure to asbestos or any material containing asbestos in any form and in any quantity; or
- your active participation in war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities, civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, terrorism, or military or usurped power.
- Relating to any accident that occurs whilst the vehicle is in or on
that part of an aerodrome, airport, airfield or military base provided for:
- the take-off or landing of aircraft and/or the movement of aircraft on the surface;
- aircraft parking aprons including the associated service roads refueling areas and ground equipment parking areas.
- Where the accident occurs outside of the period of insurance.
- Where your liability, loss, or damage to third party property and bodily injury is more specifically covered by any other insurance policy.
- You are acting in the course of their employment and any liability arising from an accident is more specifically covered by an Employers’ Liability insurance policy required by the local laws or regulations of the relevant territory.
- For any loss or damage which is otherwise not specifically covered under this insurance summary, including, but not limited to, any indirect or consequential loss.
- For or relating to any excess.

Your privacy is important to Dott’s insurer who will respect any personal data and only use and share it (to the extent that they receive it) where they have to in order to administer Dott’s insurance and any claims.
All phone calls, emails and any other written or electronic communications relating to applications for insurance and claims may be monitored and recorded and the recordings used for fraud prevention and detection, training and quality control purposes.
These purposes include, but are not limited to:
- considering your particular insurance needs;
- providing insurance estimate(s) or quotation(s) and/or arranging insurance cover;
- checking against anti-fraud databases;
- providing data to national databases where they are required by law to do so;
- handling and investigating claims and assisting in the claims’ authorisation process;
- accounting and other management information purposes; and
- for any other purpose required by law.
Even though Dott’s insurer is allowed to use personal data in the ways set out above, it’s also important that you’re aware of your rights in relation to that data. These include:
- Your right to erasure of personal data, unless Dott’s insurer’s have a lawful basis to continue processing;
- A right to request that Dott’s insurer correct any inaccurate or incomplete information;
- A right to request that any automated processing/decision making is reviewed by a person; and
- A right to request, free of charge, details of the personal data that
Dott’s insurer hold about you; You can ask Dott’s insurer at
any time for details of the information that Dott’s insurer holds about

How to make a complaint:
should you have cause for complaint, then you can reach Dott’s insurer at:

Dott’s insurer will send you an acknowledgement of receipt and a brief explanation of the further course of the procedure within 3 days from submitting a complaint.
Dott’s insurer will endeavour to reply to your complaint within two weeks and guarantees a final response within one month. If this is not possible, Dott’s insurer will inform you of the reasons for failing to respond within that time and will indicate the period within which you can expect a final response from Dott’s insurer.
If you are not happy with the response Dott’s insurer provides, then you can complain directly to:

If you are still unhappy with Dott’s insurer’s final response to a complaint, then you will have the right to pursue the matter to the relevant local ombudsman and/or regulatory authority.
If you are not eligible to take the complaint against Dott’s insurer’s to the local authority/ombudsman, then you may also be eligible to take your complaint to the Dutch Institute for Financial Disputes (Kifid), whose contact details are:

If there is any disagreement between you and Dott’s insurer, then you can also bring a claim in the Courts of your local residence.
The Spanish Law will apply to any claims occurring in the territory or any disputes relating to the Dott’s insurance as it applies in the territory.
What words mean
Throughout this insurance summary you’ll see a lot of words and phrases in bold that have a particular meaning. If you’d like to know what that is, then this is the place to find out:
accident: A single, unexpected, unforeseen and unintentional event involving a vehicle, occurring at an identifiable time and place, and resulting either in bodily injury to you and/or a third party, or damage to property.
bodily injury: An identifiable physical injury (including illness solely and directly resulting from the injury but not including any other illness, sickness, disease or naturally occurring condition).
claim: Any accident that you notify Dott’s insurer under Dott’s insurance, which may result in Dott’s insurer making a payment to you or paying any damages to a third party.
commercial use: The use of a vehicle for purposes relating to your trade, business, craft or profession. This shall not include commuting between your residence and place of work.
damages: The amount payable to a third party as compensation under civil law in the territory as the result of an accident, but excluding any punitive, aggravated, or exemplary damages, any fines or penalties, or any other award made by a criminal court.
defence costs: Any and all legal costs and expenses which are reasonably and necessarily incurred with Dott’s insurer’s prior written consent in the investigation or defence of any claim covered under Dott’s insurance,, but specifically excluding any legal costs required or incurred as a result of any criminal or regulatory action, charge, or investigation.
Directive: Directive 2009/103/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 September 2009 or any subsequent legislation.

e-bike: The e-bikes insured under Dott’s insurance, being all e-bikes owned and/or operated by Dott and made available for use to you within the territory.
e-scooter: The e-scooters insured under Dott’s insurance, being all e-scooters owned and/or operated by Dott and made available for use to you within the territory.
excess: The amount that you will have to pay towards any claim.
hazardous goods: Any goods which pose a clear and obvious risk to persons, or property (including, but not limited to, the vehicles), or which could directly or indirectly cause a fire, explosion, chemical burn, or environmental damage.
permanent partial disablement: An injury which has a significant impact upon, but does not prevent entirely, you carrying out any business or occupation and which is likely to last continuously for one year, and at the end of which period is without prospect of improvement.
permanent total disablement: An injury which entirely prevents you carrying out any business or occupation and which will last continuously for one year, and at the end of which period is without prospect of improvement.
personal use: Using the vehicle for private leisure purposes, including commuting to or from a place of work but not including commercial use of any form.
rental agreement: An agreement between Dott and any person(s) who uses a vehicle covered under this Dott’s insurance within the territory and during the period of insurance, where that person has agreed to Dott’s terms and conditions of use available at: https://ridedott.com/terms-and-conditions, whether directly or by virtue of them being employed by a company with whom Dott has a rental agreement in place.
third party: Any party other than you directly involved (i.e. not merely a bystander) in an accident with a vehicle.
you: Any person(s) who uses a vehicle covered under Dott’s insurance within the territories and during the period of insurance, and who has entered into a rental agreement with Dott.
vehicle: a mechanically propelled vehicle, and in the context of this insurance summary collectively refers to all e-scooters and/or e-bikes insured hereunder.
