Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games: Dott Strikes Gold!
Hosting the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris during the summer was an excellent opportunity for Dott to offer an expanded and enhanced service, allowing residents and visitors to reach event and competition sites across the Île-de-France region.
15,000 Vehicles Serving Olympic Sites
Dott’s service area, which already included Paris, Aubervilliers, and Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (under the TIER brand), was extended to cover key competition sites beyond Paris. Authorization from Plaine-Commune and Saint-Denis enabled access to four temporary parking zones near the Stade de France and the Olympic Aquatic Center. Additionally, transport corridors were established to serve Nanterre and La Défense Arena, as well as Colombes, for access to the Stade Yves du Manoir. In the Yvelines region, a dedicated fleet of 600 e-bikes was deployed in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, complementing the existing scooter service to provide seamless transportation for local sites.
Our fleet size significantly increased, with more than 15,000 vehicles available during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, ensuring extensive coverage and high availability throughout the event period.
To improve access near Olympic venues, we integrated all temporary parking spaces set up by Paris 2024 for both personal and shared bikes, along with additional parking zones created by municipalities near fan zones and event sites, such as Parc des Nations at La Villette. In total, nearly 10,000 parking spots were made available. Bilingual staff (French/English) were stationed at most temporary parking locations to assist users and maintain order.
Dedicated and Tailored Communication
Beginning Monday, July 22, 2024, daily messages were sent to inform users about restrictions, changes to circulation zones, and parking regulations. These updates were communicated through the Dott app via push notifications and emails.
A dedicated monitoring unit based at our headquarters worked closely with authorities to relay important messages and updates directly to our users.
To accommodate both regular and new users, we maintained our existing pricing packages to avoid any disruption for regional customers. Additionally, a special package for Olympic visitors was introduced, offering 10 rides valid over a seven-day period.
1 Million Rides and 500,000 Users
During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Dott facilitated over 1 million rides across the region—a 70% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
In total, 500,000 people utilized a Dott vehicle during this time, marking a 60% increase compared to 2023, with 48,000 new users registering on our app during the event.
Travel patterns also shifted, with average ride distances increasing from 3.1 km to 3.3 km and average ride times extending from 13 to 15 minutes. In the Saint-Denis area, trips averaged an even greater distance of 6.1 km as users traveled between Paris and key Olympic venues. Altogether, Dott vehicles covered a total of 3.3 million kilometers during the games.
Highly Committed Teams
To meet increased demand and manage our expanded fleet, we recruited an additional 40 staff members for field operations (recharging, repositioning, redeployment) and warehouse tasks (repairs and maintenance). We also invested in six new cargo bikes to facilitate “micro-rebalancing.”
During the games, our teams performed 117,000 battery swaps, relocated 4,500 bikes to maintain balanced fleet distribution, and completed 3,200 on-the-spot repairs, ensuring maximum vehicle availability and minimizing the need for logistical transport to our operational centers. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our teams, we achieved an availability rate of over 90% throughout the event.
