Dott launches shared electric scooters in Greece, starting with Athens

Athens, 11th of March 2025 – Dott, the European champion of shared micro-mobility with ten million active users, is launching its service of shared e-scooters in Greece today. With the launch in Athens, the company is now operating 250,000 e-scooters and e-bikes in more than 400 cities across 21 countries in Europe and the Middle East – offering residents and visitors of Athens an eco-friendly alternative for urban travel.

Athens to mark the first city in Greece for expansion
From the 11th of March, Dott will start its service with 300 e-scooters and will gradually and responsibly expand in full collaborations with local authorities. This phased approach ensures a smooth and reliable experience as the service is scaled up. The operating area covers the city centre of Athens for now – but will be possibly extended in consolidation with the city officials. Next to Athens, Dott is planning on launching the service of shared e-scooters in other major cities and touristic destinations of Greece as well.

Andrea Giaretta, Regional Vice President at Dott, comments: “We are thrilled to announce our expansion to Greece and Athens. From our headquarters in Amsterdam, Berlin and Paris, we are already offering the citizens and guests of all major European capitals, such as Brussels, Rome, Warsaw, Helsinki and Copenhagen our service of shared e-scooters and e-bikes – so Athens was next on our list.

We are currently operating in more than 400 cities in Europe and the Middle East and are aiming for close partnerships with the cities we operate in – to integrate micro-mobility perfectly into the existing infrastructure. This is also why we support the enforcement of the new highway code and the forming of new regulations for micro-mobility in Greece. We would be happy to contribute here with our experience from operating in other European countries.”

The reliable city partner
Dott is amplifying public transportation and helping cities to achieve their green mobility objectives. The company’s mission is to change mobility for good, with a shared micro-mobility service that is safe, reliable, accessible and sustainable. Doing this together with cities: with a strong European DNA, both technological and operational roots, Dott stands for true collaboration, transparency, fair regulation and responsible operations.

Vehicle and app features
Dott’s e-scooters are designed with a strong focus on safety, durability, and user comfort to ensure a smooth and secure riding experience:

    • E-Scooters are equipped with always-on lights, front and rear brakes, an additional electronic brake, front suspension, and 12-inch and 10-inch wheels for better grip and stability.
    • Each scooter includes a smartphone holder, allowing riders to keep their hands on the handlebars at all times
    • Group rides: During the group ride, all vehicles are activated via an account and the vehicle hire is also terminated and billed via this account. For example, people can ‘ride along’ without a smartphone or the Dott app. This feature allows users to ride in a group and also prevents tandem riding

How the Service Works
To use Dott’s shared e-scooters, users must download the Dott app from the App Store or Google Play and create a personal account. The service is available exclusively to adults. Each vehicle is equipped with GPS tracking to prevent theft and automatically regulate the maximum speed. In compliance with regulations, vehicles have a speed limit of 25 km/h. Before starting a ride, the Dott app provides users with essential safety reminders, such as using bike lanes, avoiding sidewalks, prohibiting multiple riders on a single vehicle, wearing the mandatory helmet, and parking correctly. These guidelines help ensure a safe and responsible riding experience.
