This is intended as a summary of your insurance coverage, to highlight the cover and limits provided, the key conditions you must follow and the key situations when a claim may not be paid. We have tried to identify the important points we think you need to be aware of. This is not a complete list.

SUMMARY OF INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR E-BIKES / E-SCOOTERS IN GERMANY

What is covered by Dott’s insurance?

For the duration of the rental of the vehicle, you benefit from the insurance subscribed to by Dott, covering:

  • your liability to third parties for bodily injury or damage to their property resulting from an accident whilst using a vehicle; and
  • your serious injuries (permanent partial or total disablement) or death resulting from an accident whilst using a vehicle,

in each case subject to the applicable sums insured, the eligibility criteria and exclusions as set out below. The cost of insurance is automatically integrated into the cost of renting the electric scooter.

When does the insurance cover begin / end?

The insurance coverage begins with the conclusion of the individual rental agreement, i.e. with completion of the vehicle unlocking process via the app, and ends with the parking of the vehicle and the locking of the vehicle via the app.

What is Insured? (E-bikes)

  • Liability to third parties for bodily injury or damage to their property resulting from an accident whilst using a vehicle, and up to the sums insured set out below
  • The user’s death, permanent total disablement, or permanent partial disablement in accordance with the applicable sums insured set out below
  • If death occurs in a country outside the user’s home country – The user’s funeral expenses (up to €3,000). The user’s repatriation cost (up to €5,000)
  • For head injuries sustained by a user not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, a maximum limit of €50,000 applies.

 

What is the maximum insurance coverage?

What is not insured?

No insurance cover exists for:

  • Accidents caused by an unauthorised user.
  • Accidents caused during uninsured or unlawful use.

Liability insurance

  • Damage to the insured vehicle.
  • Loss of or damage to property belonging to you or a user or in the care of a co-insured person.
  • Fines or penalties.
  • Injuries or property damage not directly caused by an accident in which the vehicle was involved.
  • Liability claims covered under another more specific insurance contract.

Accident insurance

  • Death or bodily injury resulting from an illness, unless it is the direct result of an accident.
  • Death or bodily injury resulting from a gradual loss of use or function of parts of the body that is not a direct consequence of an accident.
  • Medical costs.
  • Damages to the user for which a third party is liable.

 

What is Insured? (E-Scooters)

Motor vehicle liability insurance

  • Provides cover if the insured vehicle causes injuries or death, damages or loses to property or causes financial losses that are not related to personal injury or property damage.
  • Reimburses justified claims.
  • Defends against unjustified claims

Driver Protection Insurance

  • Reimburses the accident-related personal injury of the authorised driver.
  • Covers the legal maintenance costs of the surviving dependants in the event of death

What is not insured?

Motor vehicle liability insurance

  • Damage to your own vehicle.
  • Property damage or financial loss caused by a co-insured person to you, the keeper or the owner through the use of the vehicle. However, insurance cover is provided for personal injury if, for example, you are injured through the use of your vehicle.
  • Pure financial loss resulting from failure to meet delivery and transport deadlines.
  • Liability claims, insofar as they exceed the scope of statutory liability on the basis of a contract or a special commitment.

Driver’s liability insurance

  • Damage to the driver for which a third party is liable.
  • Accidents which happen to the driver as a result of him intentionally committing or attempting to commit a criminal offence.
  • Pathological disorders as a result of psychological reactions, even if these were caused by an accident.

 

What do I do if I have an accident?

  • Never admit liability at the scene.
  • Once you are in a safe position, exchange contact details with everyone involved including witnesses, and take note of vehicle registration numbers involved.
  • If safe to do so, take pictures of the vehicles, registration numbers and any passengers, as well as the incident scene. If any party is injured, call the emergency services.
  • Report the damage event to the insurance company within one week (see contact details below).

 

How can I claim coverage under the insurance?

If you have caused a personal injury or property damage while driving a vehicle and if you want to claim coverage under the insurance as set out above, you must report the damage event within one week to the insurance company by sending an email to schadensmeldung@crawco.de or alternatively by telephone on 0049 (0)211 95456 250.

I have made a claim, what else should I do?

  • Collaborate with Dott and the insurance company, in particular provide all necessary information for the claim handling as soon as possible.
  • Tell the insurance company straight away if:
    • you receive any communication about the accident or any costs that have been incurred;
    • if the police, law enforcement agency or other governmental body carries out an investigation relating to the accident;
    • if you, or any other third party involved in the accident is to be prosecuted as a result of the accident, or
    • if there is to be an inquest following a fatal accident.
  • Do not provide any false or fraudulent information to the insurance company, nor make any claim under the policy knowing it to be false, fraudulently inflated, or supported by fraudulent documents or facts. The insurance company may deny your claim as a result.

Data Protection

Our partners may process personal data about you where it is required in order to administer the policy and any claims.

All phone calls, emails and any other written or electronic communications relating to applications for insurance and claims may be monitored and recorded and the recordings used for fraud prevention and detection, training and quality control purposes.

These purposes include, but are not limited to:

● providing insurance estimate(s) or quotation(s) and/or arranging insurance cover;

● checking against anti-fraud databases;

● providing data to national databases where we’re required by law to do so;

● handling and investigating claims and assisting in the claims’ authorisation process;

● accounting and other management information purposes; and

● for any other purpose required by law.

Your rights in relation to this data include:

● the right to erasure of personal data, unless our partners have a lawful basis to continue processing;

● the right to request that the correction of any inaccurate or incomplete information;

● the right to request that any automated processing/decision making is reviewed by a person; and

● the right to request, free of charge, details of the personal data that held about you;

Glossary

accident

A single, unexpected, unforeseen and unintentional event involving a vehicle, occurring at an identifiable time and place, and resulting either in bodily injury to the user and/or a third party, or damage to property.

bodily injury

An identifiable physical injury (including illness solely and directly resulting from the injury but not including any other illness, sickness, disease or naturally occurring condition).

permanent partial disablement

An injury which has a significant impact upon, but does not prevent entirely, the user carrying out any business or occupation and which is likely to last continuously for one year, and at the end of which period is without prospect of improvement.

permanent total disablement

An injury which entirely prevents the user carrying out any business or occupation and which will last continuously for one year, and at the end of which period is without prospect of improvement.
