MOBIRE: Powering the Future of Circularity with NOWOS and EIT Urban Mobility
Since our foundation in 2018, we have held a clear vision: pollution-free cities designed for people, not cars. We set out to build micromobility services that are reliable and enjoyable for our riders, while also safe and sustainable for our communities. But sustainability doesn’t stop at the exhaust pipe—it lives in the heart of our vehicles: the battery.
We are excited to share our central role in MOBIRE, a landmark project running from January to December 2025. In partnership with battery repair experts NOWOS and with the vital financial support and guidance of EIT Urban Mobility, our shared mission is to create a scalable and transparent system for battery lifecycle management that will set a new industry standard. EIT Urban Mobility is an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.
As an operator with a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles, managing battery health is our biggest opportunity to reduce waste and operational costs. MOBIRE focuses on three key pillars that directly enhance our service:
A Partnership Built on a Shared Vision
What does this mean for our riders and cities? MOBIRE isn’t just a technical pilot; it’s a blueprint for the circular economy. By extending the life of our batteries, we reduce the carbon footprint of every ride.
MOBIRE enables NOWOS to live-test its scalable repair model within Dott’s fleet, turning ambitious sustainability goals into a practical reality for the entire industry.
The timing of MOBIRE is critical. The new EU Battery Regulation mandates that all batteries in Europe must be repairable with a sustainable lifecycle, from ethical sourcing to final recycling.
A central part of this is the Battery Passport—a digital record accessible via QR code. It tracks a battery’s origin, state of health, and repair history. This transparency is a game-changer for safety and second-life applications. With the Battery Passport becoming mandatory for light transport batteries from February 2027, Dott is staying ahead of the curve, ensuring our fleet is compliant and future-proof today.
By the conclusion of this project, we will have delivered:
